CONFERENCE/ACTION MEETING

Opening Statement:

The Conference/Action Meet= ing of the Mine Hill Township Board of Education was called to order at 7:37 PM on October 13, 2009 by Board President, Mary Jo Walilko. Adequate notice of the date and ti= me for this meeting was advertised in the Daily Record on April 28, 2009, in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act.

Mrs. Walilko led the Pledg= e of Allegiance.

Present:

Patricia Hernandez, Steve = Hoh, Margo Maher, Anthony Novelli and Mary Jo Walilko.

Absent:

Caryn Battaglia and Bridge= t Mauro.

Also Present: Jul= ia Coyne, Nancy Gulley and Ernest Palestis.

Motion by Mary Jo Walilko = and seconded by Margo Maher to approve the minutes of the Regular meeting held = on September 28, 2009, after the correction in spelling of Kris KanzenbachR= 17;s name.

Motion by Mary Jo Walilko = and seconded by Anthony Novelli to amend the minutes of the Special Meeting hel= d on August 28, 2009, changing the Dover Report to Closed Session.

Correspondence- Mary Jo Walilko read a letter from Dorothy Quinn resigning from the position of Yearbook Advisor for the 2009-2010 school year. She also read a letter = from the Township of Mine Hill thanking the class of 2009 for their donations to= the Mine Hill Beach and the food pantry.

Superintendent’s Report- Ernest Palestis introduced the n= ew agenda format and invited Board members to make any suggestions. Everyone was pleased with the new format. Dr. Palestis also introduced the Board to the new procedures for Closed Session Minutes. Dr. Palestis attended an H1N1

meeting in Wharton and Greg Hobaugh attended a similar meeting in Mine Hill. Tentative dates for the inoculatio= ns to be given out at Canfield<= /st1:PlaceName> Avenue School are November 13, 2009 and December 9, 2009. Dr. Palestis also asked the Board = for approval to initiate investigating changing the software used by the Main Office as well as the Board/Business Offices. Dr. Palestis will follow up.

Board Discussion/Reports- Ernest Palestis indicated that the Committee Meetings held this week were productive. It was discussed that the Roxbury Lottery Policy needs some changes. Dr. Palestis will follow up. Sam Morris will be speaking to the staff at the next faculty meeting about the PACT Programs sponsored by the MHEF. Dr. Palestis will look into family programs sponsored by the Mine Hill Township Board of Education as well. Dr. Palestis also discussed the ne= ed for the School Choice Program to be strengthened.

Business Administrator’s Report- None

Public Discussion- Nancy Gulley mentioned that Homecoming at Dover High School will be held on October 23, 2009. She encouraged everyone to attend.=

FINANCE

Motion by Steve Hoh and se= conded by Mary Jo Walilko approving the workshop travel request for Gina Naclerio = on October 28, 2009 to attend, at no cost, the Department of Education’s Educati= on Partnership Committee Meeting, with mileage reimbursement of $3.16 (10.20 miles)

Explanation: An a= ide is needed in order to complete the IEP requirements of students.

Explanation: A pa= rt time replacement was needed for Barbara Streko when classroom placement was changed making her a full time aide.

COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC RELATIONS- None

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS-Margo Maher indicated that the handicapped sign outside the Superintendent’s entrance needs to be aligned with t= he designated

handicapped parking spot.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> Steve Hoh asked if there had been = any issues with the new bathrooms. None were known at the time of this meeting.

Dover Report- Anthony Novelli reported that Leigh Anne Hoffman, a Dover High School student was in the top 5 percent in the National Merit Scholarship Award Competition. The need to bring some of the Spec= ial Education students back to Dov= er’s school district was discussed. The Board asked Anthony Novelli to clarify the Title 1 designations in the Dover school district. Anthony Novelli will follow up.

MHEF Report- Mary Jo Walilko indicated that the dedication of t= he baseball field will take place on October 23, 2009 at 3:10 pm.
