  8. Write a personal narrative. Personal narratives usually involve stories told in chronological order. All personal narratives have common elements known as "reporters' questions" - the who, what, where, when, why, and how questions reporters constantly ask themselves to make sure their reports of stories are complete: Characters (the who), Setting (the where and when), Plot/Conflict/Resolution (the what and how), Theme (the why) 9.
  9. Write a cause & effect essay. Cause and effect essays are concerned with why things happen (causes) and what happens as a result (effects). Cause and effect is a common method of organizing and discussing ideas.
  10. Write a compare/contrast essay. Writing a comparison/contrast paper involves comparing and contrasting two subjects. A comparison shows how two things are alike. A contrast shows how two things are different.
  11. Write a persuasive essay. The purpose of persuasive writing is to assert an opinion which you are going to defend and to offer supporting evidence (data) in order to convince the reader to agree with you. In the process, you deal with opposing views, thus convincing him/her of the superiority of your argument. Additionally, a good writer may present emotional as well as rational appeal. All of your reasoning should lead to a logical conclusion. If your subject matter warrants a change, you will offer a solution to the status quo in a proposal. Persuasive essays should include a bibliography. By investigating your topic and including supporting comments from authorities, you give credibility to your argument.
